The Lake House (2006)

In this installment, we are going to review 2006's The Lake House with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.  An interesting twist on connecting two different points in time, The Lake House gets a 3 star rating.  I will review on acting/casting, script and enjoyability.

Acting and casting is what drops this film from a deserving 4 star, down to its actual 3 star rating.  I apologize for doing so, but I have to interject some personal opinion into this segment of the review.  I have never been a fan of Keanu, I personally don't think he knows how to act.  Oh yeah, he has gotten lucky in a few films such as The Matrix series, Constantine and The Day the Earth Stood Still, but for the most part he only brings the movies he is cast in down.  This was another prime example.  Keanu seems to only have one acting personality, awkward.  He is not necessarily bad on screen, he is just more awkward, and it feels as if he is uncomfortable.  Enough about Keanu however, let's move on to Sandra Bullock.  She was incredible just like most films she is in.  She has an amazing gift to portray emotions on screen.  Not only in her face, but in her entire body as well.

The script was pretty good.  I was impressed, and engrossed in the film the entire time.  I was a touch disappointed in the ending, as it left a few questions unanswered.  As with most films that touch on this topic, when you change something in the past it is going to have effects in the future.  It felt as if they did an incredible job making sure everything flowed the entire movie, and then at the end they decided to let the powerful emotional ending take hold and hope you didn't notice they got to lazy to make the facts align.

Enjoyability was good.  Once I got over my personal opinions of Keanu, the film kept me engrossed and entertained the entire time.  That is a lot to say for a movie such as this, because it is fairly slow moving and has the ability to be boring at times.  Combining the filming techniques with the good script, The Lake House did keep us entertained.  Due to its unique look at the time line bending concepts, it is well worth checking out.  It was also interesting to see the Speed leads pair up for a slow movie as well.
