Nothing Like the Holidays

Last nights movie was 2008's Nothing Like the Holidays with an amazing ensemble cast.  Sine it is the Christmas season, I figured I better do at least one Christmas movie.  Nothing Like the Holidays is a pretty generic movie, but there were some very good things that set it apart.  I am giving Nothing Like the Holidays a 3 star rating.  Lets look at casting with acting, script and enjoyability.

Lets start with casting and acting.  This is the category that sets the movie apart from every other generic movie just like it.  The list of amazing cast members includes Freddy Rodriguez, Luis Guzman, John Leguizamo, Debra Messing and Alfred Molina to name a few.  Acting all around was done quite well.  During viewing, I thought that Sarah Rodriguez played by Debra Messing was not acted as well as the others, but after further review I would have to change directions and say she was acted quite well.  It was her character that was weird, as she was the only white person in a huge Puerto Rican family.  She was able to act out with amazing believeability what you would think it would be like to be in a situation such as that.

I know, I know...you can take a shitty movie and have tons of big names (such as my last review for The Expendables) and it is still a shitty movie.  Nothing Like the Holidays did have a decent script however.  The family bantering back and forth throughout the entire movie kept it light hearted and funny.  If it were not for this amazing feature in the script, the movie would have been just another generic family comedy.  The twist with the parents had you wondering throughout the movie what was really going on.

Enjoyability was touched on a bit with the family bantering.  This was repeated throughout the entire movie, making it really feel as if it was really the way the family always acted.  Good scripting paired with an excellent cast really do make this movie enjoyable.  If you are looking for a light hearted, easy to watch movie Nothing Like the Holidays is an excellent choice.

It turned out to be a fairly short review, but for a fairly plain movie it doesn't deserve anything more.  A decent watch if you have nothing better in your queue.  As always please leave comments, follow my blog above, and share to your favorite social networking site below.  Ciao for now, and see you for the next review!
