Buried (2010)

Buried takes the top spot on my list of what has to be the most basic movies to budget and film ever.  Buried replaces the previous holder Phone Booth with Colin Farrell.  Buried is a film about a man who wakes up to find himself buried alive and his 90 minute real time struggle to get out.

The opening credits and music had me hooked right from the start.  As soon as they were done I was thrown for a second as there are 2 or 3 minutes of silence and pitch black before anything even happens.  The movie picks up and rolls from there and never really sets down again.  For a one scene movie, filmed completely in a coffin, Buried has some of the best suspense of any movie I have seen as of late.

Ryan Reynolds played his part (pretty much the only part) perfect.  Not much actually happened in the film so it is a tough one to talk about and critique.  You basically have your set (the coffin), your one main character to film (Reynolds), a few supporting roles (all done by voice over the cell phone) and you have your props.

The props were pretty well done.  The kidnapper leaves Reynolds a few light sticks and most of what he had left on him.  He was left a cell phone so he could make a ransom video, but Reynolds was able to switch the phone from Arabic to English and was buried shallow enough to get a signal to make some calls.   The entire movie is about his 90 minute struggle for life.

The ending is the most surprising part of the film.  The way the film was ended was a very brave and powerful choice by the director, not what I expected.  There is not much else to say about the film.  Check it out if you like suspense films!  I'm giving Buried a 3 star rating.  Ciao for now and see you for the next review!
