Twelve (2010)

I added Twelve to my view instant queue because there have not been many decent additions in a few months.  I am running out of view instant movies to watch and getting desperate.  That desperation resulted in this movie.  Twelve stars Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Chance Crawford as the two main characters.

An hour and a half later and I am wondering how this movie went as wrong as it did.  The two main actors did a good job, the concept of the movie wasn't half bad and the filming actually looked good.

The result was not what the first impression would imply.  One of the first big downfalls was that the entire movie was heavily narrated.  The narration was by Kiefer Sutherland (which is not the problem BTW).  The problem with this is the movie is about teenagers, and Kiefer's voice over just sounds like a creepy older guy.  Beyond the creepiness, there was just way too much narration.

Curtis and Chance tried to save the film with ok performances, but every other person cast just brought it down.  I'm not saying everyone sucked here, just everyone wasn't good.  When you have that many performances that are not bad but not good they collectively bring the entire project down with them.

The story took turns for the worse once it start to develop.  You could tell the concept of the of the film was good, and had it been in a seasoned veteran group of directors and producers it may have been salvageable.  This is not a bash on less-known directors and producers mind you, some of my favorite films have come from that group of people.

The script did not help either.  Kiefer's narration was just the start of that sinking ship.  Characters were dealt bad lines and never had a chance.  All paired together I was able to finish the film so Twelve receives a 2 star rating.  Ciao for now and see you for the next review!
