Double Whammy (2001)

Denis Leary, Elizabeth Hurley, Luis Guzman and Steve Buscemi star in this 2001 film about a cop down on his luck.  Double Whammy is a comedy that follows around a few different sets of people that all end up colliding at some point throughout the film.

First let's start with the ok about the movie.  Acting was ok, but not what it could have been with a decent cast such as this film had.  Music was strangely weird, but that worked with the flow of the film.  Cinematography was surprisingly good.  Whammy also had some good one liners and funny situations, but too few and far between.

The concept of the movie was decent enough, but execution of said concept did not turn out for the best.  Despite an amazing cast, acclaimed director and cinematographer Whammy falls short in many areas.

The opening scene it self has you ready to turn off the TV.  If you can power through its unrealistic unbelievable outcome you are greeted by results that don't even make any sense.  Follow this up by an entire film of mis-mashed happenings that are loosely hung together and you end up with Double Whammy.  What could have been much more is reduced to this smoldering film that ended up direct to DVD.

The film does have entertaining aspects to it, as well as some good comedy.  If you are interested in a movie you don't particularly have to pay 100% attention to Whammy might be the film for you.  I am giving Whammy a 2 star rating because it really didn't result in anything worthy even despite all it had going for it.  Well, a short one tonight but ciao for now and see you for the next review!
