Hello again, its been awhile since my last review! Tonights movie of choice is 2010's Leap Year with Amy Adams, Matthew Goode, Adam Scott and John Lithgow. Leap Year is themed around an Irish tradition that a woman can propose to a man on February 29th in a leap year.
I have to tell you a little bit about the movie for you to understand parts of the review, so here goes. Amy Adams' character is frustrated with her boyfriend, who is played by Adam Scott. They have been together 4 years and she is sick of waiting for a proposal. He is in Ireland at a work conference and she decides to fly over to invoke the Irish leap year tradition. Bad meets worse and she ends up hours away from Dublin where the conference is and has to enlist the help of small village barkeep played by Matthew Goode to drive her there, with enough time to shop for a ring and a dress of course.
Now that you know a bit about the film, Adams and Goode are the main two characters if you didn't gather that by the brief synopsis. Leap Year is one of those films where anything and everything that can go wrong happens just to make the movie long enough to avoid being too short.
I was disappointed with Amy Adams acting in this film. She has played some very good rolls and acted them very well. In this film she plays a very big ditz and knowing how she can act this role seemed very exaggerated and was not my favorite. Matthew Goode's performance was pretty good, although he looked so different in this film I did not recognize him from a few of the small rolls I have seen him do in the past. Adam Scott was decent, but his roll in the film was so short and was at the very beginning and very end so it really didn't have a huge impact on the overall feel of the film.
Even though Scott's acting did not have much impact, his character's actions did. He throws a major wrench in at the end of the film that I did not know was coming. The end of the film is what you would guess from the moment it starts, but for those of you who don't know movie dynamics 101 I will leave it a secret. Hush hush!
Other aspects of the film were nothing to brag about, but nothing to harp about either. I have never been a fan of movies that throw bad after bad in as this one does because they just don't hold my interest all the way through. All in all Leap Year was not that bad of a film, earning it the rating of 3 stars. It does have a few LOL moments and a lot of "wow, seriously?" moments.
If you are looking for a decent film that you don't have to pour all your devotion into, Leap Year is a good choice. Well, ciao for now and see you for the next review!
