The A-Team (2010)

So to my surprise a Netflix came early, and it was welcomed after a difficult day at work.  The film was 2010's The A-Team.  Leading a great cast as Colonel Hannibal Smith was Liam Neeson.  His team was compromised of Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley.  Jessica Biel and Patrick Wilson also played key roles in the film rounding out a great cast.

My biggest surprise in the film was Sharlto Copley.  He made this film.  If it were not for his acting in his part the film would not have been the same.  This is very reminiscent of a previous role of his in District 9.  His character Captain H.M. Murdock was by far the best acted role in the film, however he also had the most interesting character in the film giving him an un-fair advantage.

His acting could not have been that good if it were not for the support of the rest of the film.  The script was very solid.  There were some intricate plots, twists and turns that would have made a lesser plot show its weak spots.  The A-Team was well thought out and all the little details fell into place.  This is how a recent review of mine, The Expendables script should have been.  An excellent script for a comedy action movie.

Filming was incredible.  The techniques used were amazing.  Camera angles, locations and jumping between cameras really added to the film.  In one scene the camera follows Quinton down the side of a building, something I have not seen anything similar to since The Bourne Ultimatum.  Another very good filmed scene was in the beginning of the film when the team is running away in the hospital helicopter.  That entire scene was phenomenal.  The acting, script, filming, directing and special effects all melded to create a perfect scene.

Speaking of special effects, that was another needed, and well executed part of the film.  In the helicopter scene again, the stunts that Captain Murdock is able to pull with a helicopter are absolutely insane.  He does this throughout the film as you learn he can pretty much fly anything with engines and wings.  I think he could have flown the Wright Brothers aircraft if he needed to.  Special effects were also great in other parts of the film besides flying.  There were some good fight sequences, some realistic explosions, believable gun fighting and realistic demolition.
The A-Team is getting a very solid 4 star review from me.  The movie was lacking that little extra shove to get it to a 5 star rating.  It was well cast, well filmed, well directed and an overall great movie however.  It is one that I would watch over again multiple times and would like to add to my collection.  It is a movie you should see if you have not, and well worth giving another spin in the DVD or Blu-Ray player if it is sitting on your shelf.

As always (which nobody but my amazing wife has ever done anyways) please leave comments, click above to follow my blog and share to your favorite social networking site below.  Ciao for now and see you for the next review!

  1. Is it ok to comment and say, "Why yes, I am awesome!"?? Very surprised how good this movie was based on the cheesy way it began. Good review. Your writing is getting better and the reviews are continually enjoyable to read. :)
